Hussein ibn Abdullah ibn Sina (Avicenna) is considered as a prominent figure who has devoted his entire life to augmenting knowledge, ethic and healthiness of human beings.  Retrieving his doctrines and contemplating over his advisements, willingness and approach can constantly enrich rationalism. International award of Avicenna cultural and scientific foundation, in brief named “award of Avicenna” in these articles of association, is intended to promote and employ the legacy of the master of the millennia as well as gaining advantage of the doctrines and scientific and cultural effects. Therefore this award is conferred to the selects in accordance with these articles of association and relevant regulations.

Article 1- Subject:

Award of Avicenna comprises a series of prizes worth a hundred thousand dollars and is conferred to either domestic or foreign natural entity/entities and legal entity/corporate body who have accomplished any distinguished scientific and cultural activities on the basis of the announced subject and the relevant terms and conditions.

Article 2- Objectives:

The purpose of conferring the award of Avicenna will be providing a basis for acknowledging and publishing his works universally, encouraging researchers, scientific and cultural centers for creating distinguished works, deepening and developing the scientific scope apropos of his activities and getting involved with the most crucial matters of humanity.

Article 3- Scope:

The scope of the award will be: influential scientific and cultural activities in the area of acknowledging and introducing Avicenna’s character and works, distinguished activities to deepen and develop the scientific scope apropos of him and influential activities to enhance the scientific and cultural values.

Article 4- Constituents:

The administrative constituents for the steps of conferring the award are as follows:
- Leading Council
- Executive Staff
- Permanent Secretariat

Article 5- Leading Council:

Leading council comprises of five individuals of the board of trustees members (three of the aforesaid members are selected by the board of trustees, the governor and the president of the foundation), two or four experts (suggested by the governor or the president of the foundation and approved by the head of the board of trustees). Leading council is the referee of defining the subject/subjects of the award, policy, date and place/places of conferring the award and is considered responsible for supervising the programs.
Note 1: Membership of the experts lasts for one period and re-election is permitted.

Article 6- Executive Staff:

In order to carry out the process and approve the plans concerning the conferment of the award of Avicenna, the executive staff comprised of affiliated natural entities and corporate body and defined administrative constituents is suggested by the president of the foundation and approved by the governor of Hamedan province.

Article 7- Permanent Secretariat:

Permanent secretariat of the award of Avicenna is located within the Avicenna Scientific and Cultural Foundation and the president of the foundation as the head of the leading council and executive staff is responsible for undertaking the secretariat tasks.

Article 8:

The international award of Avicenna is conferred to the selects in a scientific and specialized seminar over the announced subjects accompanied by the presence of domestic and foreign scientific and executive figures. The type and the terms of the award as well as the condition of holding the seminar are specified by the leading council.

Article 9- Financial Resources:

Fund credit required for conferring the award and holding the seminar is financed by “the governorship of Hamedan province” and “the ministry of culture and the governorship of Hamedan province” for the latter, in collaboration with governmental and non-profit non-governmental organizations.

Article 10:

Venerating Avicenna’s character and his works must be amongst the central programs of holding the seminar and conferring the award.


Article 11:

The selected works and the programs of the seminar must meet the necessary criteria of enhanced scientific and executive quality. Evaluation and approval of aforesaid quality are carried out by the leadership council.
Note 2: In case of the final approval by the leadership council, the seminar will be held and the award will be conferred.

Article 12:

The entire programs and implementations regarding the conferment of the award of Avicenna must be in accordance with the laws and regulations set forth by the Islamic Republic of Iran and the international official (legal) organizations.

Article 13:

Any suggested modification and revision to these articles of association must be approved by the board of trustees.

These articles of association consisting of 13 articles and 2 notes were ratified in the 3rd session of the Scientific and Cultural Foundation’s board of trustees dated October 24, 2007.
